If the tree is due to be felled imminently, there are still things you could try to prevent it. Depending on the specific situation, action which can be taken are:
- Speak to the Tree Officer if you think the felling is unlawful, or if you think they will grant an emergency Tree Preservation Order (TPO). All local authorities should have a Tree Officer, you should be able to find their number on their website.
- Speak to the Forestry Commission if you think the work requires a felling licence and one has not been granted - 0300 067 4000.
- Speaking to the Wildlife Police if you believe the felling will be illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 - call 999 or 101.
- Call friends/residents and stand in the way/peaceful protest/climb the tree. If you can, park your car under the tree and stay in it. Read our guide to non-violent direct action (coming soon!).
- Contact the press - you will have to Google your local paper and get contact details from their website.
