A big win for WWAG!

Wellingborough Walks Action Group victory in their judicial review!
Marion (Wellingborough Walks Action Group) and Alice (Goodenough Ring Solicitors) joined us for our June meeting to tell us about the history of the campaign which saw 16 Lime trees from an ancient avenue felled last year. The remaining trees were saved with the help of local campaigners and barrister Paul Powlesland.
They explained the huge importance of the win in the courts. All trees were protected with Tree Preservation Orders and the courts agreed that the felling had been unlawful. Importantly, individual TPO’d trees must be specified on the planning consent to be worked on or removed and if felling a tree with a TPO on can be reasonably avoided in order to proceed with the development then the removal of the TPO for the planning consent is not valid. This is a great result!
